Inside Our Budget Goal Seek
Excel Template
Kids love to play the ‘What If’ game. It’s purely a hypothetical, imagining what it would be like if they were a dinosaur or rhino. The funny thing is we still play that game as adults, only with numbers instead of animals. We mold the game to examine scenarios in which we know the output, but not the input. What if we do $10 million in sales this year? How many units at a known price will we have to produce to reach that mark?
Our Budget Goal Seek Excel Template is one of the best templates we have for financial modeling and answering those exact questions.
If you love this template, you’ll also be a fan of our Cash Flow Planning, Business Valuation, SaaS Metrics Dashboard and Balanced Scorecard Excel Templates. Our finance templates are designed to help you analyze and understand the health of a business without creating spreadsheets from scratch.
While this template is built to calculate a desired total budget, you can use it to calculate a number of different inputs based on your requirements.
Let’s dive into how to use our Budget Goal Seek Template.
Start by entering the price and count needed per each time period, either the monthly or quarterly based on your needs.
Enter the desired total budget in C17 (for the quarterly budget) or C37 (for the monthly budget). Leave the value (either price or count for a specific period) blank and the Desired Total table will automatically calculate the desired input.
Once you’ve entered the calculated amount in the Budget Table, it will show that the grand total has adjusted to reach the value of the desired total.
You can also use the Goal-Seek feature in Excel, however, this template suits those who aren’t well-versed in Excel shortcuts and want to easily and quickly calculate an unknown input.
